The cloudless Oregon sky and bucolic countryside became their cathedral.

Fortunately, this was the mildest July any of the old folks could recall and, of course, a nervous groom in a rented tux needs all the relief he can get. His uniform of well-worn denim and scuffed up boots is of no use to him as his flowingly gowned bride to be (still out of view from the rest of the attendees) began to eye the perfectly adorned gazebo where he stood waiting.

Both hearts leapt as the ringing of a makeshift bell tower replaced the traditional bridal chorus.

50+ followers :)

I hope one of you has a map because otherwise, dear followers, we’re doomed as doomed can be!?!?!

Well so far so good…but seriously 50+ followers in a month and a half…whodathunkit?

Note I said Whodathinkit not Hodathunkit:

So at the urging of Maddie Cochere (blame her for what follows) I present my poem 50+ Followers:

I noticed today that 50+ followers had begun closing in

And yet I had nothing to entertain them with but digital paper and pen

SO as fast as I could I fashioned a blog

Full of fiction, humor and even an ode to my dog

So dear readers although the one you’ve chosen to follow is certainly no scholar

He vows today to not further delay the posts geared towards  his 50+ followers!

(Hmmm…why is everyone exiting at the same time? Bathroom break? Sigh…)

That’s my wife. Her name is Linda.

We settled in Camarillo soon after my failed attempt to take Hollywood by storm. She encouraged me to continue to develop my passion for painting, if for no other reason, to help retain my sanity through all the auditions and rejections. My claim to fame is I was anonymous businessman #3 standing in a lunch line for one of those Grisham movies.

She was a dancer and taught some privately but, when we felt the timing was right, we scraped every penny and took a loan out for this restaurant.

So…how’s that Sangria?

If the sound of ocean waves rising and falling is your idea of the perfect alarm clock to awaken you to a new day, then you must see our newly listed beach property! Boasting a 360 degree ocean view, this little slice of heaven on earth will serve you well with open air breezes and semi private walkway surrounding your stucco Mediterranean influenced villa.  Square footage in an ideal location such as this may be surprisingly affordable.

Welcome home!

Day 103:

None of us were certain at first that the bright glow of light was originating from the sun.

Although the sky still had a menacing hammered glass kind of effect, at least it had remained quiet for weeks. Then the additional air assaults began as factions were deployed to finish what they started. We are still surviving underground but the rations are depleted. The cattle and fowl have all fallen prey to the nuclear fallout aka “the fog” (our code words when discussing these matters with the children).

I began this diary the day I began feeling ill.

Her:”Good morning!”

Him: (groggily) “Good morning.”

Her: “See…flying on an airplane is not so bad…especially after you combined a Xanax with a glass of single malt scotch. You slept just like a baby.”

Him:”Well, I’m just glad we got that part over because, as much as I love you and knowing how long you’ve wanted to go to the Bahamas, I just had to get over my fear of flying once and for all.”

Her:”Good to hear because our next flight leaves in an hour…there’s been a slight mix up.”

Him:”They lost our luggage?”

Her:“Yes..along with all sense of direction.”

Him: “Honey I’d have to rewire the thing to get it working again . Not to mention out of ALL the yard sales we’ve been to today this is the only lamp with most of a broken bulb remaining in the socket. ”

Her: “But it reminds me of that beach house we rented in Savannah that summer. We never did get out of the house much as I recall.”

Both share a knowing smile.

Him: “Are you sure this is the one?”

Her: “Yes but after 33 years I’m still considering my options with you…so don’t push your luck.”

On the loss of an addict…

There’s an emptiness that can’t be filled

A silent bond that leads us all against our will

To reconcile the you we loved so much with the you we could not save

We pray to heaven you found peace today

There were chambers in that secret heart of yours

Where insecurities and demons tread for sure

In spite of all your strength you stood on shifting sands that washed away

We pray to heaven you found peace today

We know not of all the struggles you endured

That turned to ash everything born so pure

Yet in the looming darkness we watched you stumble into grace

We pray to heaven you found peace today

Friday Fictioneers #1 – Assembly Line Heart

***This is my first contribution to Friday Fictioneers. I welcome your feedback!*** Friday Fictioneers is a weekly flash fiction challenge to create a 100 word story based on a photo prompt and then receive as well as share feedback with writers from around the world. Revised 2/2/2014 Word count: 99

My heart came down an assembly line. Pounded, burned and forged like steel, buffed and shined by the hands of several lovers through the years.

Although the first dropped it by accident, another did her best to test its tensility like a child would that of an old unwanted toy. Yet another was bent on breaking it beyond recognition…which seemed to take me an eternity to return it to the manufacturer’s specifications.

Actually, none of them ever asked for a design…each just took it and ran. However, the only one of them that really matters never gave it back.

My first WordPress Award!

Thanks to tameramb aka Jibber Jabber & Happenstance for this nomination! Ich habe eine Liebster? Das ist sehr gut!!!

According to Loraine Reguly: The word Liebster has German origins – the word “liebster” has several definitions: dearest, sweetest, kindest, nicest, beloved, lovely, kind, pleasant, valued, cute, endearing, welcome, sweetheart and boyfriend (really?)

Here are the rules:

  • The bloggers that have been nominated must link back to the person that nominated them
  • Nominees must answer the eleven questions given to them by the person who nominated them
  • Those nominated must choose eleven of their fave bloggers that have less than 200 (1000?) followers to answer their own set of questions (a few of my choices I wasn’t sure about)
  • When you are nominated you cannot nominate the person that nominated you

Here are my nominees, I just started this month and had a hard time creating this list (lame!) and had a hard time narrowing down but would like to know each blogger better!

4. Do you believe in karma? Your karma ran over my dogma!
